It was a full-house at our December Think & Drink…despite the frigid weather and rapidly accumulating snow! In fact, we even had two participants ski in (big props to Randy & Dan)!
With several new faces joining the mix this month and a healthy spread of food and hot tea (to combat the cold outside…and flu season!), our group cozied into the wine vault room at The Sapphire for a wonderful evening of philosophical dialogue.
Unlike our previous think & drinks, this month we had a general topic. Namely, questions generated from our recent election and ways in which we might better identify, understand & clarify the hopes, frustrations, fears and desires of people across the spectrum. After some deliberation, we embarked on a discussion within this topic about how to navigate truth & post-truths. Which then led to (a ping-pong-esque relay of) discussions about:
- What are facts?
- Where does science come in to play?
- How does context dictate facts (or our perceptions about facts and what is true)?
- What role does media play in our understanding & beliefs?
- Is there a historical precedence for what is happening today (politically and socially)?
- What role does compromise, negotiation & finding common ground play in communication?
- And more….
Thank you to everyone who braved the elements to hunker down in the wine vault with us! It was great to see so many new faces and share such wonderful dialogue! We’re looking forward to our January 2017 Think & Drink!
Check out pictures from our gathering below (Disclaimer: We were very inactive with taking photos this go around and only managed to get a picture of the grub after it was close to no-longer existent! Our bad! We will do our best to not let that happen again!)
