Two New Programs About Philosophy
We are pumped to have been asked & selected by Humanities Montana to create two programs about philosophy — both of which speak to the relevance and import of philosophical thinking in our everyday lives. The first program — “Philosophy: What & Who is it Good For?” — is part of the Speakers in the Schools Program, and the second — “Philosophy: A Way of Life & Public Good” — is part of the Montana Conversations Program. Montana Conversations & Speakers in the Schools offers over 100 discussion programs for communities and schools on topics like public affairs, history, Native American cultures, and literature.
Our program focus will be philosophy, of course, and more specifically “philosophy as a way of life, community, why philosophy matters, and what youth bring to the table.” Thank you so much, Humanities Montana for this amazing opportunity! – Marisa
Program Overviews
As a non-profit organization centered around philosophy, it stands to follow that we…well….dig philosophy. In light of this, we created two philosophy in the community programs led by Marisa Diaz-Waian aimed at sharing our love and respect for the discipline and why it matters in our lives. Our Humanities Montana programs include:
- Speakers in the Schools Program — Philosophy: What & Who is it Good For?
- Montana Conversations Program — Philosophy: A Way of Life & Public Good

If you would like to bring either of these programs to your organization, school, or community gathering in the Helena or surrounding areas, or anywhere across the state of Montana, here’s how you do it.
- First, contact our program discussion leader, Marisa, via e-mail at marisa@merlinccc.org or call #406-439-5788 for availability. At least four weeks in advance of the proposed date is preferred, if possible.
- Then, once availability is confirmed, fill out the Humanities Montana online application. Humanities Montana requests a $75 copayment which can be made with a credit card online, or by mailed check.
- Wait for Humanities Montana acknowledgement of support, usually about a week after they receive your application. Funding is limited and not all requests are approved.
- Keep a record of the names, hours, and value of volunteer time. This information will be required in the online final report to Humanities Montana due two weeks after your program occurs.
